WHY IS A BRACELET CALLED “BRACELET”?

It’s almost impossible that you don’t know what is a bracelet… but, a tricky question, do you know WHY is it call it like that? Keep reading, and we will find out!

A bracelet took its name thanks to the Greek word “brachile”, that means “of the arm”. So, although the term “armlet” would be technically correct, it’s taken to mean that sits on the upper shoulder: an arm ring.

Almost every civilization in every time period, makes reference to bracelets or armwear over thousands and thousands of years. This have been worn as a symbol of status, protection, a record of life events, trophies, a guide to gods in the afterlife, or simply for personal pleasure.

There is a lot of shapes, sizes and materials that can be used to make bracelets; and nowadays bracelets are predominantly worn for decoration and style.

They are often given as gifts, creating a fond of memory for the recipient to make them feel specials or to remember certain occasions or moments. Bracelets could be purchased for a specific event, or just to enjoy.

ALTERNATIVE HEALTH OR HEALING BRACELETS

Alternative health or healing bracelets, such as stone bracelets, evil eye bracelets, ionized bracelets, karma bracelets, magnetic bracelets, Power Balance hologram bracelets, etc., are not distinguished by their design but rather the beneficial function claimed for them by their artisans and distributors. For example, Stone bracelets or evil eye bracelets are associated with bringing good luck and good health to the ones who choose to wear it.

CHARM

A charm bracelet is one that carries personal charms, this could be decorative pendants thar are signifiers of important things, interests/hobbies, and memories in the wearer's life. This charms usually carry personal or sentimental attachment by the owner.

BANGLES

Solid bracelets, usually from metal, wood, or plastic, are referred to as bangles or bangle bracelets. They can be smooth, textured or set with stones. Fun fact, in India, it is common that young children will wear thin gold bangles on their hands and ankles.

LINK

Bracelets made from connecting or linking various or similar components or jewelry findings. Link bracelets can be made of a variety of materials including metals, gemstones or leather.

BEADED

Usually made from loose beads with a center hole and connected by a piece of string or elastic band through the holes.
There is a lot of styles and materials of beads creating the largest variety of bracelets.
